DOT Physicals

Are you a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver in need of a DOT physical?

Whether you’re a new driver, or looking to renew your medical examiner’s certificate, Acton Urgent Care can provide a quick DOT physical to get you on the road!

All commercial drivers must carry a valid DOT card to stay compliant with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Acton Urgent Care has licensed medical examiners on staff to perform the required physical examination and ensure you’re able to safely drive a commercial vehicle.

Our providers have a thorough understanding of the DOT rules and regulations, and want to help put you in the driver’s seat. DOT physicals are designed to detect physical, emotional, or mental health issues that may affect your ability to drive safely. We will work with you to identify risks and prepare you for the road.

What to Expect.

Come prepared for your DOT physical visit. If you wear eyeglasses, contact lenses, and/or a hearing aid, make sure to bring those along. In addition, it’s important to have a list of the medications you take, and the contact information for the prescribing doctor. To save time at your visit, you can download and complete the Driver sections of the Medical Examination Report form ahead of time. Remember to sign and date the form and bring it with you.

A certified examiner at Acton Urgent Care will review your medical history and perform a physical exam. In order to obtain a DOT medical certificate, you will need to meet various health requirements, including:

  • Unimpaired vision and hearing
  • A negative drug test
  • Healthy blood sugar levels
  • Regular blood pressure and pulse

The provider may also check your current alcohol level.

Based on your physical, the examiner will determine if you can perform the demanding job of a CMV driver. He or she will then fill out the Medical Examination Report for Commercial Driver Fitness Determination form, along with all supporting documents. If you pass the DOT physical, we issue your Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC) on the spot! Your MEC is valid for up to 24 months.
